Grill’n Bar
Richard (Dickie) Furtado, owner of the restaurant, comes from a family of restauranteurs and entrepreneurs on the Hawaiian Islands. In his senior year at Punahou School he began working as a waiter after school. Dickie continued to work part time through his first year at University of Hawaii. Schooled in San Francisco for his formal education in the industry, he returned to the islands and worked all facets of family restaurants.
Shortly thereafter, Dickie to opened what would be the very popular Wailea Steak House, on the brand new Wailea Golf Course, in Wailea on Maui, serving over 250 dinners a night. He then opened Makawao Steak House upcountry on Maui. He owned and operated the Japanese Hibachi Restaurant as well as the Kula Lodge.
In 2009, Dickie opened the restaurant Waikoloa Grill'n Bar bringing Kiawe grilled steaks and seafood to The Waikoloa Beach Resort on The Big Island of Hawaii. The restaurant is located on the 14th tee of The Beach Golf Course, one of the two golf courses at The Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Dickie's restaurants have always featured a casual atmosphere, great steaks & spirits along with a salad bar. The simple menu and casual island atmosphere has always remained a constant and part of the reasons patrons keep coming back. All dressings are homemade family recipes. The seasonings on the meats always have a distinct flavor being grilled over Kiawe wood. Only premium cuts of beef are used.
At Waikoloa Grill'n Bar, Dickie carries on the family's tradition of Kiawe Grilled Steaks and Seafood with a Salad Bar. Many of Dickie's own signature recipes are also on the menu and shared with other family restaurants. Dickie calls Waikoloa Grill'n Bar "a throw-back" to days gone by. He believes that you should be able to go out for a good meal, have a couple of good drinks, be comfortable and not suffer the national debt when paying the bill. Waikoloa Grill'n Bar gives The Big Island patrons and visitors from all over an enjoyable dining experience, with the tried and true most popular recipes and the benefit of fifty plus years of the multi-faceted restaurant industry statewide, serving in the traditional ISLAND CASUAL STYLE. After all "OUR REPUTATION IS STEAK!"
